Ordnance Soldiers from across the Army will have the opportunity to demonstrate and compare their core competencies in a DA level event!

The U.S. Army Ordnance Crucible is designed to assess Soldiers’ teamwork and critical thinking skills as they apply technical solutions to real world problems. The U.S. Army Ordnance Crucible will allow Divisions to validate institutional training, and display their respective units’ skills. Participants in each of the competitions will be subjected to a Large Scale Combat Operations that will assess their knowledge and mastery of tasks within their respective occupational skill sets. In addition, the competition will be physically and mentally demanding.

The U.S. Army Ordnance Crucible is comprised of the Ammunition Transfer Holding Point (ATHP) Team of the Year (ToY), Combat Repair Team (CRT) ToY, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) ToY. The events will be held from 22 July – 13 September 2019. The CRT event is canceled for FY19. The ATHP event will feature 21 teams from across FORSCOM, USAR and NG and take place at Ft Pickett, VA. The EOD ToY, comprised of six two-man teams, will be held at Fort A.P. Hill.


Combat Repair (CRT) Team of the Year FY19 event is canceled. FY20 is currently in the planning process. Teams will perform Battle Damage Assessment and Repair, conduct recovery operations, and compete in a culminating maintenance challenge to evaluate TTP effectiveness.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Team of the Year, 22-26 July 2019 (Fort A.P. Hill, VA). EOD Teams from commands across the globe will have their Soldier and EOD skills put to the test, under rigorous conditions, both day and night. An assessment that will inform DOTMLPF-P programs for the next year. Team Leaders will be challenged with leading their teams through 72 hours of continuous EOD operations. They will negotiate demanding UXO and IED scenarios, physical fitness, navigation, and weapons events. Six will assess. One will be named Team of the Year.

Ammunition Transfer and Holding Point (ATHP) Team of the Year, 09 – 13 September 2019 (Fort Pickett, VA). The event focuses technical and tactical proficiency on ammunition operations during Large Scale Ground Combat Operations. Teams should focus training efforts on site selection and layout, inventory management operations, SCP-11 management, Warrior Tasks and Battle Drills, and munitions identification.
